Dedicated to Inspired Expressions of Life's Energy

More than Animal Communication
A thank you to Ted Andrews

01/10 - Nature's Pathways

Lisa with a Chipmunk

I was profoundly saddened when I heard Ted Andrews (author of Animal Speak, Enchantment of the Fairie Realm and many other books and audio programs) had passed from this physical world.  I considered him my best teacher, even though I had never met him.
Ted’s books gave words to the experiences I’ve had with nature all my life.  I have always ‘felt’ the emotions of trees and plants, thinking this was what everyone experienced.  It wasn’t until I was introduced to animal communication that I would find a definition of my experiences.
Animal communication is about connecting.  An understanding (and belief) that everything in the universe is connected is really the first step to learning this innate form of communication.
I remember the first time I ‘talked’ with an animal.  It was actually a horse.  He told me all about his likes and dislikes, his barn and his friends.  I was thrilled and awed.  I cried when I shared the experience with my husband later that day.
What I hadn’t been told is that you need to let the animal know you’re finished communicating.  I sat up at 2am that night, having listened to this horse continue his dialogue with me and stated, “Ok, we are done talking now.  Good night.”
Connected – that’s what I was doing – like telephones, radio signals or the internet.  We human beings are connected with everything; the trees, plants, rocks, water, animals, birds and even insects.  Of course, this isn’t limited to the physical realm either.  Those that have passed are still an energy that we can connect with.
Learning to connect and trusting our intuitive sense is easy.  As Ted Andrews says in his writings, ‘Pay attention to what nature is communicating with you.  Nature is communicating to all of us all the time.’
For example, I asked nature to show me a sign to indicate what my animal totem is.  As I walked my dog that morning a crow flew right in front of me (not 2 feet away) with a morning dove in his talons.  I was shocked!  I thanked nature for the sign and continued my walk.
A couple weeks later I was doubting that I really experienced this and asked nature for another sign.  I heard a loud commotion from sparrows in my front yard and could ‘hear’ my name being called. I ran outside.  Immediately a crow flew into the tree and grabbed a sparrow!  I apologized to nature right away for my disbelief.
Animal companions communicate in a much more direct way.  They will send you ‘pictures’.  An example of this is you suddenly have an image flash in your mind of your husband walking in the door.  You then notice your dog sitting by the door waiting for him.  Then you think; ‘Ah, my husband should be home soon.’  Your dog (or cat) just sent you the update and you didn’t even realize it!
I helped locate a lost cat in Illinois once.  The owners were frantic and called me to help them.  I had ‘talked’ with this feline before so the connection was easy.  When I asked her where she was, I ‘heard’ a box.  Well I needed more so I asked her to show me.  I began to ‘see’ steps going down.  Then I ‘felt’ myself go right.  She then asked, ‘see the shelves?  I’m in the shelves.’  I could tell she was very weak and suddenly experienced dry mouth.
Sure enough, the owners found her in a wardrobe box by the shelves to the right of the stairs in the basement.  She was ok but hungry and a bit dehydrated.  They were grateful for this help and thanked me for my gift.
The truth is, this isn’t a unique gift.  Everyone can learn to communicate this way.  Edgar Mitchell, the astronaut sums it up best; ‘It shouldn’t be referred to as our sixth sense, it should be called our first sense.’
So, thank you, Ted Andrews for your wonderful teachings, writing and wisdom.  I only hope I can help others make the connection as well as you did for me.
